Admission Process & Eligibility

Admission to NIFT Delhi requires clearing a rigorous, multi-tiered national entrance examination that tests creativity, aptitude, and practical skills.

  1. Step 1: Application Submission: Candidates must apply online via the official NIFT admissions portal and pay the application fee.
  2. Step 2: Written Entrance Examination:
    • B.Des & M.Des: Candidates take the Creative Ability Test (CAT) (to judge intuitive ability, observation skills, and design capability) and the General Ability Test (GAT) (evaluating quantitative, communication, and analytical skills).
    • B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, MFM: Candidates appear only for the GAT.
  3. Step 3: Practical / Personal Assessment Round:
    • B.Des Candidates: Those shortlisted from the written exams must take a Situation Test, a hands-on exam evaluating material handling and innovative thinking using a given set of materials.
    • PG Candidates (M.Des, M.F.Tech, MFM): Shortlisted applicants participate in a Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI).
  4. Step 4: Centralized Counseling: A final Common Merit Rank (CMR) is generated based on weighted scores from all stages. Seats are allotted through centralized counseling based on rank, category, and campus preference.
