About Government College, Haily Mandi Gurugram

Government College Jatauli Haily Mandi (Gurugram) is a premier public higher education institution serving the rural belt of southwestern Haryana. Located in the Haily Mandi region of Gurugram district, the college acts as an academic lifeline for thousands of students across dozens of surrounding villages.

History & Legacy

The institution originated in 1971 under the name Kamla Nehru College. It was founded through the collective efforts, vision, and financial contributions of local community leaders and philanthropists who recognized the urgent need for a higher education facility in an educationally and economically underserved region.

Recognizing its growing importance to the community, the Government of Haryana took over the management of the college in 1980. It was officially rechristened as Govt. College Jatauli Haily Mandi. Over the decades, the college has transformed from a modest local initiative into an established, multi-disciplinary government institution. Initially affiliated with Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, the college transitioned to Gurugram University, Gurugram, aligning with regional administrative and academic restructuring.

Social Impact & Regional Role

The primary mission of the college is to democratize access to higher education in an area historically considered educationally, socially, and economically backward.

  • 20-Kilometer Radius Reach: The college caters to male and female students residing within a 20-kilometer radius, providing affordable, high-quality education to youth from rural agricultural households who might otherwise lack access to higher studies.

  • Empowering First-Generation Learners: A significant percentage of the student body comprises first-generation college students, particularly young women, contributing significantly to regional literacy and empowerment.
